Why do I love dōTERRA? I’ll break it down, but in a nutshell, sourcing -both for potency and for ethical impact, testing and wellness products.
First, I love their sourcing! If I want the best, I go to the experts. doTERRA’s farmers are experts, farming on land and through processes that have been passed down for generations. They know the intricacies of each plant, how to grow it, when to grow, where to grow it, how to harvest it, and how to select the best.
“A crucial element in providing a quality essential oil is guaranteeing that there is maximum potency. For an essential oil to obtain a strong potency, the plant it originates from must be grown in the right environment. When plants are grown in optimal soil, temperature, and climate, they produce a higher quality of potency in the essential oil.
To maintain this level of potency, doTERRA networks with experienced farmers around the world that intimately know how to grow plants in their native environment. This process is called sourcing. The sourcing process ensures that plants are taken care of properly and harvested at the proper stage by growers who have generations of harvesting knowledge. Once the plants reach their prime, they are then gathered and carefully distilled by artisans, making oils that are potent, consistent, and pure.”
In addition to sourcing in a way that gives them the very best, most powerful essential oils on the market, dōTERRA’s process of sourcing creates an industry that uplifts and instills hope in farming communities around the world. This process is called Co-Impact Sourcing.® In addition to everything else, using dōTERRA oils just feels good. Your purchase makes a difference. It’s ethically sourced, and supports the people that have been growing these plants for generations! If you’ve got a minute, see this video on co-impact sourcing.
“Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. doTERRA is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and harvesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity.
Additionally, the Healing Hands Foundation, doTERRA’s charitable organization, provides funding and resources to create community-based, social-impact projects to improve lives in the larger communities where oils are sourced. Past projects include building or sponsoring existing medical clinics, installing drinking water and irrigation systems, building schools, and providing other educational resources such as vocational training programs.”
Second, I absolutely trust the purity of dōTERRA essential oils. They are passionate about what they do. They are passionate about making sure that if they are going to be used in our families, they are safe, potent, natural, and effective. In a world overrun with chemicals, dōTERRA essential oils are purely from nature proven through their Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) testing process. dōTERRA extensively tests each and every essential oil they sell three separate times, both in house and through independent third party labs, to ensure you get exactly what you need – certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. As time goes on, doTERRA continues to improve upon their testing system, including the new Source to You site where you can look up the quality reports of each individual bottle of oil that was produced in the last year. While it will be awhile before this covers all bottles, it just shows their commitment to making sure we can be confident in their oils.
Beyond essential oils…
Third, dōTERRA has specially formulated supplements to improve cellular function, increase energy, and help you live a longer, healthier life. dōTERRA is an Essential Oils company, but they do so much more for our health and wellness through a huge variety of supplements. They cover sleep, immunity, bone support, female hormone support, gut health, and fill so many gaps in between. There’s items to support healthy weight loss, detoxification, and even a way to get those powerhouse greens into your daily life.
Fourth, I love that dōTERRA makes it so easy to put safe, natural, eco friendly products into my home. They have a spa line of bath and body and facial products to toothpaste and deodorant – all infused with CPTG Essential Oils. I love their OnGuard household items such as the cleaner concentrate which cleans my counters, bathrooms, floors, changing table, and dishes, the ultra concentrated laundry detergent, and even hand soap. With every use, I know I’m killing germs in a powerful way with something that’s safe enough for my tiny baby. dōTERRA can come in and completely make over your life without all the guesswork.

Co-Impact Sourcing is one of my favorite things about doTERRA, and the way it’s affected Frankincense growers in Somalia is my favorite of the stories. Go to the doTERRA’s site for more about sourcing Frankincense.

Ok, but what about the oils at the grocery store?
When I got into essential oils years ago, they weren’t that easy to find. There were only a few places to get them, none of which were the local supermarket. This made my choice pretty easy. I started with dōTERRA and their Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils. Since then, so many places have started to sell oils. Here’s the thing, at this time, essential oils are not regulated by the FDA. A company can put whatever they want in a bottle, label it “essential oils” or “pure” and that means nothing to the average consumer. It can be full of chemicals, artificial fragrances, or fillers. Those gas station essential oils may be “cheaper” but they are a complete waste of money. A bottle of pure Frankincense essential oil CAN NOT be produced for $5. It just can’t. If you’re buying Frankincense (or pretty much any essential oil) at that price, it’s not real. It looks like you saved money, but you just threw away $5 completely. To be completely straightforward, at best, they are useless. At worst, they can harm your family. Do not put cheap oils on your skin. Do not ingest them. Definitely don’t give them to children. If you’ve already been doing that, now you know better. When you know better, you do better. If you are buying essential oils for their therapeutic value, it’s worth paying for pure, safe, effective essential oils.
